About Melissa

September 20, 1975—St. Paul, Minnesota

Where I’ve lived:
Elk River & Minneapolis, Minnesota; Memphis, Tennessee; Seville, Spain; Vina del Mar, Chile and Alexandria, Virginia. Ironically the two main cities I have lived in outside of Minnesota are Memphis and Alexandria, which are both large cities in Egypt.

Family:
I’m the youngest of Pat and John Hasslen’s five children. I’m very lucky to have Cindy, Joe, Tim and Mandy for constant guidance and harassment. =) Not only am I the youngest of five but I have eleven nieces and nephews. It’s been wonderful growing up with Joshua, Nathan, Heather, Stephanie, Lacey, Chelsea, Davis, AJ, Nick, Eoghan and Finn.

College:
I studied Spanish and Elementary Education at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and graduated in 1998. I have completed most of my Master’s Degree in International Education at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. I will graduate in May of 2004.

Career:
My past career was teaching Spanish to elementary students. Currently I’m looking for a new job. My dream job (and what I studied in grad school) would be to work in a college or university in the Twin Cities metro area, working in a Study Abroad Office.

Sage and bright fall colors

Favorite Musical Artists:
Prince and the BoDeans

Drives:
My first car was a Dodge Shadow. My current car is a 2001 Volkswagen Passat.

Perfect Day:
My perfect day would be spent sleeping in and then heading out for a hike on a beautiful fall day. The day would end cuddling up by a fire in the fireplace and roasting marshmallows.
